Since 2010, Waitongwu has transformed itself into a village of arts, improving infrastructure with the help of China Central Academy of Fine Arts to attract artists, designers and craftsmen to set up workshops, high-end homestays and art galleries here. After years of development, both the incomes of the village collective and per capita incomes of the villagers have increased dramatically, reaching 4.32 million yuan (665,311 U.S. dollar) and 49,000 yuan (7,546 U.S. dollar) in 2017.
