DHAKA, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Customs officials at Bangladesh's main airport in Dhaka early Monday seized gold beads weighing about 6 kg from an Indian national who arrived here by a local Regent Airways flight from Singapore.

Acting on a tip-off, a Dhaka Customs official who preferred to be unnamed said they detained the Indian national identified as Soumik Dutta with the gold beads worth about 30 million taka (about 361,445 U.S. dollars) on early Monday.

The man was arrested when he was crossing the green channel at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and the gold beads were hidden in a water dispenser he was carrying.

Small balls of gold were hidden in the dispenser's compressor.

According to the official, the Indian man will be handed over to the police.

Sources said organized gangs of local smugglers having link with their foreign sidekicks have been increasingly using Bangladesh as a transit for the illegal transportation of gold, foreign currencies, contraband drug and medicines.
