ANKARA, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Turkey suspended a bilateral migrant readmission agreement in response to the Greek court's rulings refusing to extradite coup-linked former soldiers, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Thursday.

"There is a migrant deal with the European Union. That's being implemented. On the other hand, we have a bilateral readmission agreement with Greece. We have suspended that at the moment," Cavusoglu told reporters in southern province of Antalya.

Under the bilateral deal signed in 2001, Turkey would accept illegal refugees deported from Greece.

Greece refused to extradite eight former Turkish soldiers who fled to the country and were granted asylum by the Greek Council of State.

All fugitives were released by Greek courts despite the fact that Turkey accuses them of involvement in a coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
