TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Close to 4.95 million tons of oil and non-oil commodities were transited through Iran during the first half of the current Iranian year starting March 21, Eghtesadonline reported Sunday.

The figure registered a 2-percent rise compared with the corresponding period of last year, the report said.

The main transit commodities were fuel, chemicals, construction materials, home appliances and cotton.

Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Uzbekistan and Turkey were the main destinations for the transit goods passing through Iran.

More than 1.46 million tons of the commodities were transited from Iran's Shahid Rajaee Port in the city of Bandar Abbas in the southern province of Hormozgan during the six-month period, which accounted for some 30 percent of the transit goods, said Director General of Hormozgan Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization Daryoush Baqer-Javan.

The port was the most active point of entry among Iran's 32 border terminals during the period, Baqer-Javan was quoted as saying.
