LUSAKA, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's year-on-year inflation as measured by the all items Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased during the month of November, its statistics agency said on Thursday.

The annual inflation rate declined to 7.8 percent in November from 8.3 percent in October, according to the Central Statistical Office (CSO).

"What this means is that on average the rate at which prices are increasing has slowed down from 8.3 percent to 7.8 percent," Goodson Sinyenga, the statistics agency's acting director told reporters during a monthly press briefing.

The decline is mainly attributed to the purchase of vehicles and passenger transport by air, he added.

However, the month-on-month inflation increased to 0.9 percent in November from 0.7 percent in October and this has mainly been attributed to price increases of food items.
