PARIS, March 1 (Xinhua) -- France, the United States, Italy and Britain have reiterated their support for the United Nations envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame and the UN's Libya mission UNSMIL to reduce tensions in Libya, the French foreign ministry said Friday in a statement.

"We welcome the United Nations initiative to convene Prime Minister al-Sarraj and Libyan National Army Commander Haftar on February 27 and pay tribute to the efforts of the government of the United Arab Emirates to facilitate this discussion," said the statement.

The four countries also welcomed UNSMIL's announcement that a political agreement could be reached on the need to end the transitional stages in Libya by holding general elections and on ways to maintain stability in the country and unify its institutions.

They called on all Libyans to work constructively with the Ghassan and seize this vital opportunity to establish a stable and unified government that can ensure the security and prosperity of all Libyans.

They also welcomed the Libyan government's announcement of a national agreement that the parties have agreed to resume oil production in the al-Sharara oil field.

All parties must quickly implement this agreement to allow the National Oil Company (NOC) to resume its vital work in the interests of all Libyans, according to the statement.
