NEW DELHI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Heat stroke has claimed 43 lives in India's eastern state of Bihar, state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) reported Sunday.

The worst-hit district in the state is Aurangabad where around 30 people have died so far. Nearly seven deaths have been reported from Gaya district and six from the Nawada district, the report said.

Moreover, 70 people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in these districts, with many of them undergoing treatment with the symptoms of severe headache, dizziness and dehydration.

State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed grief and announced an ex-gratia payment of 400,000 Indian Rupees (around 5,715 U.S. dollars) to the next of the kin of the deceased.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that there will be no relief from intense heat wave conditions for the next two days.
