CHENGDU, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A pivotal railway linking southwest China's Sichuan and Yunnan provinces has been reopened Friday, 93 hours after it was damaged by landslides caused by heavy downpours.

Landslides damaged rail tracks at two sections of the railway in Ganluo County, Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Liangshan, Sichuan Province on July 29, forcing over a dozen trains to return or be halted, according to the China Railway Chengdu Group.

More than 1,300 workers and over 30 units of rescue equipment were sent to the site to repair the tracks.

At 9:31 a.m. Friday, a freight train safely passed the repaired section. However, passenger transport service has not yet been resumed for safety reasons.

Further reinforcement is still ongoing as persistent heavy rainfall is forecast to hit the area in the next few days.
